It is a documentary film on Netflix starring Kip Andersen on his journey to find the link between diet and disease. What the Health tries to convince us there is only one healthy way to eat. And it involves cutting all animal products from our diet.

According to the film, meat, dairy, poultry and fish are what is fattening us up. They’re also responsible for causing the most common chronic illnesses such as cancer and type-2 diabetes.

Without a doubt, we are currently in the midst of disease epidemics such as obesity, diabetes, and diseases of the heart and these are caused mainly by diet, and the quantities of food we eat, as well as the current lifestyle. While we agree that the film has raised a number of good and valid points in the film, we admit that some of their claims have raised our eyebrows.

Kip Andersen What the Health

This 3-part summary series will give you an overview of what is being argued in the film:

  • There are approximately 350 million people with diabetes
  • World health organization report has classified bacon & sausage as carcinogenic to humans
  • American cancer society encourages eating processed turkey and canned meats
  • In the US, 1 out of every 4 deaths is from cancer
  • Two thirds of adults are either overweight or obese
  • 70% of deaths and morbidity are largely lifestyle related & preventable
  • Most kids by the age of 10 in the us have fatty streaks in their arteries
  • Eating a high carbohydrate diet or sugar is not causing diabetes
  • One serving of processed meat per day increased risk of developing diabetes
  • American diabetes association features recipes for red & processed meats
  • The amount of people who die from cardiovascular disease is the equivalent of four jumbo jets crashing every single hour, every single day, every single year
  • American Cancer Society recommends fish and poultry
  • The number one dietary source of cholesterol in America is chicken
  • Eating 1 egg per day is just as bad as smoking 5 cigarettes per day for life expectancy

The first part of the film sets the premise for the argument that we are in a period where the top killer is diabetes and cancer. Before we know it, we are falling into our demise because of the lifestyle we’re having. People are spending millions of dollars everyday for these diseases. So who do we blame for that?

Watch out for the second part of this series to find out more about what made this film an eye-opener.
